DO NOT VOTE!

Well, here we are on the eve of an election day for what is perhaps the most important, if not most controversial, mid-term election in recent memory. Over the last few months you have heard me discuss the virtues of voting, that it is an inherent part of our civic duty. You have also heard me describe the problems with such things as the economy, Obamacare, term limits, and electing incumbent career politicians. Many of you have agreed with me, but I suspect it wasn't unanimous. Nonetheless, I was attempting to encourage people to engage their brains and take a position, one way or another. If you have thought about these issues carefully, then I want you to most definitely vote, one way or another. If you are satisfied with the status quo in government, fine, vote your conscious. If you are not satisfied with the status quo, as I am, fine, vote your conscious. I cannot fault anyone for voting under either scenario. You are acting as responsible citizens.
However, if you haven't a clue as to what the issues are or who the candidates are, than I most sincerely admonish you: DO NOT VOTE! "WHAT??? What's that you're saying Tim, Don't vote? I thought everyone is supposed to vote. What are you saying?"
Yes, contrary to conventional wisdom, if you do not know what you are doing, I don't want you to vote. I'll give you a pass instead (a "Get out of Voting" card). An uninformed vote can do more damage to this country at this time than anything else. It also means you are being manipulated by either the media or a special interest group who is counting on clods like you to vote as they tell you. If you don't know what you are doing, it's simple: DO NOT VOTE! Stay home and watch "Dancing with the Stars" instead. It will be less taxing on you, and definitely more entertaining. In other words, instead of playing the patsy for someone else, you can fulfill your civic duty better by staying home as opposed to making an uninformed decision.
Now, with all this said, what can we expect after the election?
If the status quo is maintained and the Democrats remain in control over both chambers of Congress, this will be a resounding victory and endorsement of the policies of President Obama. It will also signal the President to push forward even harder on his liberal agenda. However, this will represent a tremendous setback for the Tea Party and the Republican Party who believed public opinion was swinging in their favor. This will either break their spirit and momentum or embolden them to work overtime to remove the President from office in the 2012 election.
However, if the status quo is broken and we witness a "political tsunami," as many political pundits describe it, and the Republicans take control over one or both chambers of Congress, this will be a resounding defeat and refutation of the president's policies. The Republicans will then move quickly to revoke the president's legislation, only to be rebuffed by the president's veto power. A stalemate will ensue until the 2012 elections whereby both parties will offer sweeping reforms for the public to chose from. The Tea Party will also be emboldened under this scenario and will begin a full court press to push the Congress to implement sweeping reforms. On the left, progressives, labor unions and the rest of the "One Nation" splinter groups will be forced to regroup and refocus. Unfortunately, it will be too little, too late as the Tea Party will be in the limelight.
Regardless of the outcome tomorrow, we are witnessing history in the making. For those who understand what is going on, your voice will be welcomed. As for the rest of you, I would very much appreciate it if you let me know who gets kicked off of "Dancing with the Stars."
