WHY OLDSTERS ARE MEAN

BRYCE ON LIFE

- And, No, we're not like this all the time.

There is a general stereotype of senior citizens in this country whereby they are commonly described as either mean, cantankerous, grumpy, crotchety, irritable, impatient, sour, aloof or acerbic. There are reasons for this, most of which are caused by changing physical conditions. Allow me to explain.

As youngsters, it wasn't uncommon for us to run around and bump into things, thereby causing a cut or scrape, but as we get older we seem to develop a magnetic attraction for bumping into things or stubbing our toes, resulting in a massive bruise the size of Peru. This is probably due to the blood thinners doctors prescribe to prevent strokes and heart attacks.

We also tend to suffer from a litany of body aches in our muscles and skeleton. It is not uncommon for lower back pain to develop or arthritis to take its toll on us, causing us to make an Advil milkshake after working in the yard. Want to really scare a senior? Just sneak up behind them and shout, "Shingles!" Weight also plays a role in our pains as we find it difficult to shed the pounds like we could in our youth. As a standard rule, if you cannot fit into a seat on an airplane, maybe its time to cut out the country fried steak and gravy.

While we're on it, isn't it amazing the plethora of pills doctors prescribe for seniors? Some people are required to take handfuls of pills just to make it through the day. After a while you start to think of yourself as a walking chemistry experiment. No, seniors do not want to do as the drug commercial's suggest and, "Ask your doctor." I am particularly fascinated how elders have embraced "sexual enhancement" drugs like Viagra and Cialis. Prior to their introduction, I never realized there was even a problem. I guess you would be mean too if you couldn't "perform," not to mention the feelings of your female partner.

It is not uncommon to develop hearing problems, due in large part to the head-banging loud music we listened to in our youth (thanks Led Zeppelin). We then start to wear hearing aids which we try to cleverly hide behind our hair or under a hat. Without them, we smile a lot, nod our heads, and pretend to know what people are saying around us.

In terms of eyesight, we may have had Lasik surgery to overcome cataracts and astigmatism, but we still find it difficult to read small fonts, particularly when working crossword puzzles. Cheater eyeglasses are helpful to avoid squinting, but you always keep a magnifying glass within reach.

Hair is important to both sexes. For men, as we start to lose it on our heads, it starts growing where it is not supposed to, such as ears, eyebrows, noses, and, Yes, elsewhere. Women become very concerned with the color of their hair. Some have noticed people treat them differently based on their color. A gray or silver haired woman is treated differently by the public than if they were a blonde, brunette, or redhead. Not surprising, they develop strong attachments to their beauticians.

Then there is the matter of peeing. In our younger days, we could sleep through the night regardless of the amount of beer or wine we drank. Not anymore. Now it is common to get up once, twice, even three times at night to relieve ourselves. Of course, it doesn't help when we continue to get a drink of water or juice in the middle of the night. Some people are gluttons for punishment. Sleep deprivation obviously affects our mood.

These physical nuances play on the nerves of older people, but there are other elements which affect their temperament; for example:

We begin to notice we are becoming forgetful. Suddenly the names of old friends are hard to remember, as is remembering the titles of books, movies and music. House and car keys seem to mysteriously disappear and are found in unlikely places, such as the bathroom, a sock drawer, refrigerator, between the cracks in a sofa, or even worse, the ignition of a car. It is not uncommon for people to become unglued when they cannot find their keys, their wallet, or their purse.

As you get older you sense you are being taken for granted and, even worse, being targeted for various scams by robo-callers from Asia and Africa. "No, my computer is just fine," I tell them, "and, No, I do not want to give you my social security number or bank account number so you can deposit a bazillion dollars into it. Get lost!"

These scams are very disturbing as smooth talking con artists find a way to prey on the innocent. Even when you demand they take you off of their calling list, they do not.

Want a fun way to get rid of such parasites? Use a foreign accent; the stranger the better. I like to use a heavy Swedish accent when I talk to such huckleberries. When I get such a call, I put down the phone and start speaking loudly, "Ya Ma, de man on de phone here says ve have a problem with our computer; that it has a bug and is infected, Ya. Jumpin Jiminy what are ve going to do? Ya Ma, you're a right. Here, you hold the computer and I'll spray it with de bug juice. Wow, dat was a close one." By the time I return to the phone, the caller is long gone.

Finally, seniors suffer with the anxiety of change. Even the slightest thing seems to set them off, particularly if you alter the time they eat dinner. They believe they have a sense of humor, but do not comprehend the humor, music, fashion or movies of the day, considering all of it vulgar. Technology often pushes them over the edge. It's a bit disconcerting for them to rely on their three year old grandson to program the television set or show them how to use a smart phone. Keep in mind, as we grow older we become more set in our ways; we know what works and what doesn't, and any departure from this, large or small, throws us for a loop.

The next time you find a senior is a little mean or cantankerous, you now know what is causing them to act as such. Their only solace is knowing the next generation will have to follow in their footsteps and face the same problems. Misery loves company.

HOLDING A JOB HOSTAGE

BRYCE ON BUSINESS

- How programmers do it, but why does management accept it?

Click for AUDIO VERSION.
To use this segment in a Radio broadcast or Podcast, send TIM a request.

For as long as I can remember, people in the Information Technology business have enjoyed relative immunity from being fired from their job. This is primarily because when they write source code (text which is compiled into electronic format) it is difficult to read and understand the logic behind it. In most cases, if a programmer has written a program featuring a special calculation or feature, employers are afraid to release the person as they fear the logic will walk out the door with the person, making maintenance or modification of the source code almost impossible. This can be easily overcome by developing documentation, both within the program using comments, and externally where the purpose, description, and logic of the program is explained, as well as its interfaces to other programs and file structures. Unfortunately this rarely occurs as programmers stubbornly resist writing documentation in fear someone might read it and criticize their work. By doing so, they have safeguarded their job and now hold it hostage.

Think of it this way, it is like an architect being the only person who knows how a building is designed. Who would fire him? After all, there are no blueprints and the design is filed away in the person's head.

Frankly, I do not understand why managers accept this behavior, but they do. Consequently, it becomes difficult to reprimand an employee. Further, it becomes rather expensive to dissect a program and modify it without disrupting the interfaces to everything else linked to it.

Another problem is when programmers leave a company they often take code not belonging to them. Regardless if it was written by the programmer or another, most programmers feel entitled to the code so they may use it with their next employer. This is incredibly illegal and could do serious harm to the company, as it is their intellectual property, but it is a common occurrence in business today.

What I have described herein is common knowledge inside the Information Technology field. The outside world is generally unaware of this problem. There are other technical positions doing this as well, but it is in programming where it becomes a flagrant problem. Outside consultants also like to play this game and deliver software, but no documentation, thereby creating a dependency on their services. Again, the best way to overcome this problem is to insist on verifiable documentation, but managers either do not understand the problem or naively believe programming is an art form which can only be performed by people who cannot be inhibited by structure or discipline. This is just plain nuts. Under this scenario, the real culprit is the manager for allowing this to happen, not the programmer.

I have always believed the best way to make yourself indispensable to a company is by demonstrating a positive attitude and a professional work ethic (e.g., craftsmanship), not to mention delivering on time and within budget. Alas, this appears to be an attitude from a bygone era.

WHAT DO THE DEMOCRATS WANT?

BRYCE ON POLITICS

- What are their qualifications?

Click for AUDIO VERSION.
To use this segment in a Radio broadcast or Podcast, send TIM a request.

I happened to watch the opening statements by the Democrat House members prosecuting former President Trump in Impeachment 2.0. Their arguments were laughable as they deliberately took the president's comments out of context. They often quoted him in piecemeal, without describing his comments in its entirety. It was always my assumption the prosecutor's job was to seek the truth in order to apply equal justice under the law. This is obviously not the case here as I believe the House prosecutors have deliberately distorted the truth and spread falsehoods.

This charade of a trial is designed at discrediting President Trump, in an attempt to prevent him from running for president again, but it is also aimed at suppressing his supporters whom the Democrats characterize as "domestic terrorists." This demonstrates the lengths the Democrats will go to get their way.

Over and over again, I have heard the Democrats claim this or that was a "threat to Democracy." Interestingly, they simply refuse to admit we live in a "Republic" and not a "Democracy." Nonetheless, I see them as a true threat to the continuation of the USA as we know it.

I also do not consider Joe Biden a legitimate president for two reasons; first I have seen nothing to suggest the presidential election wasn't stolen; years from now, historians will tout this as the biggest fraud ever enacted in the nation's history. Second, I look upon Mr. Biden as an old man in his dotage, lacking the mental acuity to fulfill the job. It seems rather obvious to me someone is pulling his strings as he is certainly not capable of ramrodding the many executive orders he signed in the early days of his administration. I seriously doubt he understands everything he has thus far signed and the damages he has caused, particularly in the area of unemployment.

What we are witnessing is a genuine threat to our freedoms, particularly our cherished first and second amendments. The Democrats are attacking freedom of speech as they want to eliminate dissent. They will do this by enacting "domestic terrorism" legislation to suppress those who do not accept Democrat policy. Such legislation will also be used to shut down talk radio/TV. The "Fake News" will also do their part to spread propaganda and coerce political correctness, and social media will continue to discourage independent thought, and endorse Democrat positions.

The "right to bear arms" as defined by the second amendment will come under attack as well, not for safety or mass shooting reasons, but to disarm the populace. The one thing the Democrats fear is an armed public which could stop them from implementing their agenda. Hence the need for gun control legislation. Biden has made this a priority of his administration, which explains why he will attack the NRA and gun manufacturers. Although he wants legislation, look for executive orders to get the ball rolling. In response, the American public is on a record buying spree of weapons before Biden can issue his first order.

The Biden administration has already re-instituted more regulations aimed at expanding the federal bureaucracy primarily in the areas of environment, energy, housing, even the pandemic. Like the Obama administration, the government will become larger and more repressive thereby inhibiting business.

Punishment is the order of the day though as the Democrats attempt to shut down anyone opposing their programs, such as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis who has been successful in containing the COVID-19 virus while allowing schools and businesses to flourish. This is in sharp contrast to Democrat governors in other states who have much worse records. In response, the Biden administration is threatening domestic travel restrictions to/from Florida, thereby attacking its economy. DeSantis will not back down and take legal action to refute such initiatives. The point is clear though; the Democrats will try to punish anyone opposing them. This conflict with Florida is just the first of many under the Biden administration.

This is obviously not the first time we've seen the Democrats try to bully their opponents, most notably their spying on the Trump campaign, siccing the "Fake News" to hound him, implementing two "fake" impeachments against the president, and stealing the election.

Biden claims he wants unity. The reality is the Democrats want submission to their view of the world and morality, which is a form of slavery. Some people are willing to acquiesce to this new culture, people who we label as "sheeple." However, the 74 million people who voted for Trump will not. This is why the Democrats are working overtime to suppress Trump voters and why they want to prevent Trump from running again as he is the only person willing to stand up to them.

In a strange way, it is good that Biden became president so the American people can readily see how dangerous the Democrats have become. It will be interesting to see how this affects the 2022 election. In theory, there should be a major push-back. Then again, elections have been altered before.

If I have learned anything about the Democrats over the years, they will go to any length, and say and do anything to get their way, legal or not. They are not interested in freedom or even Democracy. It is about pushing their agenda to reshape the United States. It is all about control. So much so, they will make "Big Brother" seem rather small.

WHO IS FILLING BIDEN'S CABINET?

BRYCE ON POLITICS

- What are their qualifications?

Click for AUDIO VERSION.
To use this segment in a Radio broadcast or Podcast, send TIM a request.

I was recently talking to old friend Rick Trader of the Conservative Commandos Radio show regarding President Biden's cabinet picks. This caused me to dig in deeper and look into their background. Naturally, they are all filled in by Democrats, just as President Trump's was filled in with Republicans, but there is something else going on.

In theory, the cabinet Secretaries should be the most qualified people for their jobs, just as in the business world. The idea of appointing someone for political favoritism reeks of nepotism and, quite often, is an impediment to progress. We typically see ambassadorships rewarded to political donors but cabinet positions are used to run the country, and political rewards would be a serious mistake.

In looking over the appointments, some make sense, others are just plain off the wall. It appears Biden has been selecting people based on their race, gender, their far-left ideology, or their work in the Obama administration (6 in all). It was certainly not for their management skills. As one example, Pete Buttigieg is a young man who only served as mayor of South Bend, Indiana (home of the University of Notre Dame), with a population of 102K, which is rather small in comparison to most major American cities. Nonetheless, he was appointed Secretary of Transportation, a field in which he has no experience whatsoever. I suspect he was rewarded this for his position on climate control which he spoke on during his failed campaign for president.

Let's look over the list of cabinet appointments, and consider their qualifications; let us also look at the immediate predecessor from the Trump administration.

CABINET - APPOINTMENT

AGRICULTURE - TOM VILSACK

An Obama appointee, he held this position from 2009-2017. He is also a former governor of Iowa.

Trump: Ed Schafer - served twice as Agriculture Secretary and is a former governor of North Dakota.

ATTORNEY GENERAL - MERRICK GARLAND

Garland is best remembered as the Obama pick to replace Antonin Scalia on the Supreme Court, which was not acted on by the Senate. He has been serving as a federal judge, on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals. Believed to be moderate in most decisions, but leaning slightly left.

Trump: William Barr - twice served as Attorney General.

COMMERCE - GINA RAIMONDO

Currently, she is the governor of Rhode Island. Her background includes being a venture capitalist. As governor, she cut taxes every year, removed thousands of pages of regulations, raised the state minimum wage to $11.50, and made community colleges tuition-free (a favorite with the far-left). However, her approval ratings routinely ranked in the bottom of all governors in the United States.

Trump: Wilbur Ross - successful businessman. Named by Bloomberg Markets as one of the 50 most influential people in global finance.

DEFENSE - LLOYD AUSTIN

Austin is a West Point graduate and served over 40 years in the military. If confirmed, he will be the first black defense secretary. Previously, he was picked as Vice Chief of Staff of the United States Army by Barrack Obama.

Trump: Mark Esper - Also a West Point graduate, Esper joined the U.S. Army and served as an infantry officer with the 101st Airborne Division. He saw action in the Gulf War. Afterwards, he served in the 82nd Airborne and the Army National Guard.

EDUCATION - MIGUEL CARDONA

Cardona serves as the Connecticut commissioner of education. He has an extensive background in Connecticut education. The hard issues he faces include opening schools closed due to COVID-19, and transgender sports.

Trump: (acting) Phil Rosenfelt - been with the Department of Education since 2005.

ENERGY - JEFFIFER GRANHOLM

Former governor of Michigan. Was a member of the Obama transition team. Granholm is a distinguished adjunct professor of law and public policy at UC Berkeley. No energy experience.

Trump: Dan Brouillette - previously served as the Deputy Secretary of Energy from August 2017 to December 2019.

HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES - XAVIER BECERRA

He is currently attorney general of California. He was previously a Congressman representing downtown Los Angeles. While in the House, he served as the chair of the House Democrat Caucus from 2013 to 2017. Becerra is perhaps best known as the AG, along with 15 other Democrat-led states, to file a lawsuit against the Trump administration over the president's declaration of a national emergency to fund and build the southern U.S. border, as well as many more lawsuits against the administration. He is far-left.

Trump: (acting) Norris Cochran - part of DHHS since 2006.

HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT (HUD) - MARCIA FUDGE

Fudge is currently a Democrat member of the House from Ohio. Her background is substantially different than her predecessor.

Trump: Dr. Ben Carson - a pioneer in the field of neurosurgery. He was also a professor of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery, and pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He is also known for his run for the presidency in 2016. If anything, Dr. Carson was over qualified for his job as HUD Secretary.

INTERIOR - DEB HAALAND

If confirmed, she will be the first Native American cabinet secretary. She has been very active in Democrat politics, such as speaking against the appointment of Judge Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court. She also actively supports the Green New Deal and Medicare for All. She is far-left.

Haaland's appointment is controversial as a group of 15 Republican House members sent a letter to President Biden urging him to withdraw her name claiming, her nomination is "a direct threat to working men and women and a rejection of responsible development of America's natural resources."

Trump: David Bernhardt - also worked for the Department of the Interior during George W. Bush's presidency.

LABOR - MARTY WALSH

Walsh is the current mayor of Boston. He is one of the few cabinet appointments cruising through his confirmation hearing. Walsh has an extensive background in unions, both as a member and as a mayor working with them.

Trump: Eugene Scalia - served one year as Solicitor of the Department of Labor during the George W. Bush administration. He is a son of the late Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonin Scalia.

STATE - ANTONY BLINKEN

An Obama appointment serving as deputy secretary. Also served in Clinton's state department and on the National Security Council for then VP Biden.

Trump: Mike Pompeo - former CIA Director, graduated first in his class as a West Point graduate, also served in the House of Representatives (KS).

TRANSPORTATION - PETE BUTTIGIEG

Former mayor of South Bend, Indiana. Ran for president in 2020. He worked on John Kerry's 2004 presidential campaign as an advisor, policy and research specialist. No transportation experience. He is far-left.

Trump: Elaine Chao - Naturalized citizen. Married to Sen. Mitch McConnell. She has served the Department of Transportation since 1986, particularly in the Maritime Administration. Served as Deputy Transportation Secretary from 1989-1991. She was also the longest-serving Secretary of Labor.

TREASURY - JANET YELLEN

Recently confirmed, she is the first female Treasury Secretary. She has prior experience as the chair of the council of economic advisors and chair of the Federal Reserve under Obama. She comes from academia, where she has taught economics for many years at Harvard and the London School of Economics.

Trump: Steven Mnuchin - American investment banker at Goldman Sachs.

CONCLUSION

As with any job, people should be eminently qualified to successfully fulfill a job, but this isn't always the case in Washington, DC. Unfortunately, the best people are not always available. After all, they would have to sacrifice their business careers in order to serve. So, you have to ask the question, are the people selected doing this for love of country or are there other ulterior motives, such as political recognition and power?

As we can see, not all of the candidates herein are qualified for their positions. This is like hiring ditch-diggers to work in Silicon Valley. Undoubtedly, all will tow the line when it comes to Democrat values and priorities, but will that make for a well-oiled machine to run the country? In all likelihood, when the Biden administration is done, we will have another costly mess to clean up and not a clean and productive hand-off. Unfortunately, this is how the American public elects to operate.

In the business world, there are two tried and proven tactics to rationalize failure; first, blame your predecessor, and; second, reorganize everything, making it difficult to straighten out later on. What we are now witnessing in the Biden administration is both excuses being implemented at warp speed. God help us!

WHY BRAKE CHECKING?

BRYCE ON TRANSPORTATION

- Some "must see TV" for young people.

Click for AUDIO VERSION.

To use this segment in a Radio broadcast or Podcast, send TIM a request.

I have recently developed a fascination with Youtube videos regarding vehicles on the road. There are literally hundreds, if not thousands, available over this video service. The ones I particularly like are instances of Road Rage, accidents, police chases, and just plain sloppy driving. I usually watch these segments early in the morning and am aghast as to what I see. I inevitably stare at the screen with my jaw dropped and saying, "What in the hell are they thinking?"

At first you are amazed at the comedy of errors performed on the roadways, but then you realize the severity of the problem and wonder why people drive the way they do. It's as if they had virtually no training whatsoever before obtaining a driver's license, and maybe this is so. For example, you see people changing lanes without looking (or using turn signals), merging traffic thereby forcing people into guard rails, and "brake checking" whereby drivers rush to get in front of you, then suddenly apply the brakes. From what I can see, this is done for two reasons; either to cause an accident as part of an insurance scam, or as a form of road rage. Either way, it is incredibly dangerous and the people trying this must have a bolt loose.

All of this is recorded for posterity on "dash cams" which are small audio/video cameras mounted either on the front or back of the vehicle (or both). Although cars will have them, you see many more trucks using them. Such cameras are a God-send as they usually show who is at fault, thereby helping law enforcement and insurance companies determine who the guilty party is in an accident. After watching these videos for awhile, it is hard to imagine not having one of these cameras on your own car. It should be standard equipment on cars today.

After watching these videos for awhile, I've noticed two things:

First, it appears truckers, in general, are better drivers, even though there are several videos to indicate otherwise. However, most truck drivers appear to be patient and spend most of their time avoiding automobiles like waving gnats away from their face.

When I learned to drive back in the late 1960's, I was told to avoid the large semis; I was instructed to either quickly pass them, follow them, but under no circumstance run alongside them where you might find yourself in a truck driver's blind spot. After all, they were much bigger than my car and I didn't want to become an accident victim. This instruction has served me well over the years. Yet, in the videos, it appears motorists are no longer afraid to run along side the big rigs and even go so far as harassing them, either by tailgating them, or "brake checking" them. Again, this is a dangerous maneuver and I have to wonder what the drivers are smoking or drinking for them to try this on a semi. As for me, I'll continue to give the big-rigs a wide berth.

The second thing I observed is the skill and patience of law enforcement. Most of the videos I've seen, be it in criminal chases or simple moving violations, show the officers as professionals trying to keep the wackos off the streets. They may not be uniformly perfect, but they should be afforded the respect they do. Their patience is truly admirable and I don't know if I would have the fortitude to deal with knuckle-heads like the police do.

There is also a series of "Instant Karma" videos showing police apprehending motorists almost immediately after they commit a violation. It's really funny to watch people commit a moving violation even when the police car is either behind them or next to them. They are simply not too bright.

Interestingly, I find myself rooting for law enforcement after watching a motorist making even the simplest of bad decisions. I truly appreciate what the police do for us to safeguard our roads and highways. Yes, I have picked up a couple of speeding tickets myself over the years, but in hindsight, they were right to issue them to me.

The lessons taught by these videos are simply too numerous to list here. As such, I think young people should be forced to watch a certain number of these videos in order to qualify for a driver's license. If they watch them, they will learn how dangerous it is out there, and maybe they will learn to drive more defensively.

As a country, we used to be taught to drive defensively; anyone remember the expression, "Watch out for the other guy"? Today though, people tend to be more aggressive behind the wheel. I blame this on our technology addiction which has conditioned people to be less tolerant of others and focusing on only their own selfish desires. This explains why we are less courteous and cooperative on the road.

I would much rather see our young people get a "brake check" in the classroom as opposed to on the roads.

Be sure to check out the Youtube videos. You'll be amazed with what you see.

Also, you might enjoy this other essay I wrote a few years ago, The Driving Top Ten.

WHO ARE THE DOMESTIC TERRORISTS?

BRYCE ON POLITICS

- Depends on your interpretation and political party.

Click for AUDIO VERSION.

To use this segment in a Radio broadcast or Podcast, send TIM a request.

The term "terrorist" came into vogue during the 1970's as we experienced a spike in airline skyjackings. This, of course, led to the tightening of security measures at airports. I'm old enough to remember life before this, back when you just showed up at the airport, walked on the plane and handed your ticket to the stewardess. Yes, it was that easy, and flying was fun. Not anymore, TSA has seen to that.

Since then, use of the word "terrorist" became associated with atrocities in the Middle East, such as kidnappings, murders, bombings, extortion, and executions, such as cutting off heads. In this sense, terrorism has been around for hundreds of years, but more recently it came to the forefront in the latter part of the 20th century and is considered barbarous.

Please understand the purpose of terrorism, to wit; to use unlawful force or violence to intimidate people for political or social gain. It is a technique used to get one's way, particularly if the opposition is too large to fight one-on-one. Consequently, the terrorist turns to clandestine tactics to intimidate others.

Today, we are hearing a lot about "domestic terrorists," meaning a group of people in this country who are trying to use savage methods to get their way. Even President Biden, in his inaugural address, alluded to such a phenomenon, "And now, a rise in political extremism, white supremacy, domestic terrorism that we must confront and we will defeat."

Other prominent Democrats have been repeating this mantra as well, including Rep. Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Chuck Schumer. Much of this is designed to convict President Donald Trump after impeachment, but it goes after his supporters as well. Recently, a group of Senate Democrats introduced a resolution to review "domestic terrorist" threats by extremist groups. It has even been suggested that the Republican Party be placed on such a domestic terrorist watch list. Again, this is designed more to intimidate Trump supporters than anything else. Make no mistake though, their constant references to "White Supremacist" groups is a swipe at Republicans and not the KKK.

These same Democrats have remained stone silent on the violent actions of groups such as Antifa and Black Lives Matter (BLM) who actively participated in the 2020 "Summer of Hate" where buildings were invaded, burned, looted, and local citizens viciously attacked. They were certainly not "peaceful protesters." This means "domestic terrorism" has two different interpretations depending on the political party you embrace.

The use of the expression "white supremacy" is a clever attempt to label all Republicans as racists and should be punished accordingly, including the termination of their free-speech rights. The Democrats' lothsome characterization of Trump supporters is reminiscent of Hitler's persecution of the Jews, as evil parasites feeding on the Aryan master race. Yet, the Democrats seem to have no problem threatening Republicans:

"Let’s make sure we show up wherever we have to show up. And if you see anybody from that (Trump) Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd. And you push back on them" - Rep. Maxine Waters - June 25, 2018.

This is much more threatening than anything spoken by President Trump at the "Stop the Steal" protest of January 6th, yet while the Democrats claim Waters was only kidding, they are Hell-bent on impeaching the former president.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) has even gone so far as to brand Congressional Republicans as white supremacists, "This term (2021) there are legitimate white supremacist sympathizers that sit at the heart and at the core of the Republican caucus in the House of Representatives" (as told to MSNBC, Jan 28, 2021).

By doing so, AOC is declaring them racists and, as such, unfit to serve in Congress. This, of course, is fallacious. I just wish AOC was aware of her own party's role in the preservation of slavery, the Civil War, the KKK, and Jim Crowe laws. She obviously doesn't remember the "Stand in the Schoolhouse Door" incident in the 1960's by Alabama Governor George Wallace (a prominent Southern Democrat). All of this is in sharp contrast to the Republicans who promoted freedom and reconstruction, which is all conveniently forgotten. AOC's sense of history is embarrassing.

Let us also understand this recent push to declare groups of people as "domestic terrorists"; by doing so, this means they can be treated like any other terrorist group and subject to prosecution under the Patriot Act, which is certainly not a misdemeanor. It also means the federal government can spy on you, as well as search and seize your belongings without a subpoena.

So, the question remains, who are the domestic terrorists? That depends on your political persuasion and the violence committed. If you are a Democrat, you point at your political opponents, the Republicans, for whom you brand as "white supremacists" a la Identity Politics. If you are a Republican, you point at those vandalizing and creating mayhem in our cities, such as Antifa, BLM, and those sponsoring these groups.

So, to be correctly labeled a terrorist, you have to ask which side commits true violence and for what purpose, specifically intimidation. If it doesn't pass this simple acid-test, they are not terrorists, but political pawns instead. All of this is aimed at changing our perspective and a part of a larger picture of de-programming the citizens of this country.

A CURRICULUM FOR SOCIAL SKILLS

BRYCE ON LIFE

- What we should be teaching youth.

On more than one occasion you've heard me talk about the deterioration of social skills in the work place, primarily due to the heightened influence of technology. It is not uncommon to find people who have basic problems interacting with customers, vendors, or fellow employees. This fundamental flaw has an adverse effect on teamwork, customer service, and sales.

I recently had a reader call me to task on this and asked what kind of curriculum I would recommend to teach proper social skills to younger workers entering the work force. From my perspective, I can think of three prime areas to concentrate on:

* Communications - both written and oral. It's not simply a matter of mastering the media to be used, but more importantly, the content. Text messaging and the Internet has basically destroyed civil discourse and how to write an effective business letter which, of course, is critical for customer service and sales. Beyond this, people need simple speaking skills, such as how to engage in conversation, the proper way of performing an introduction, how to make a presentation or conduct a meeting. This includes lessons in persuasion, negotiation, and rhetorical thought. In addition to writing and speaking, listening is equally important, after all, it takes two to Tango.

* Ethics - dictates our value system, and is a little more than what is right and what is wrong. It also includes respect for others as well as yourself (a "Do unto others..." philosophy). Ethics plays a significant role in terms of teaching such things as self-worth, dedication, integrity, ambition, and the value of a dollar. Ethics is an expression of the expected code of conduct for everyone to adhere to and abide by.

* Common Courtesy - represents basic manners and how to interact with others. It's a little more than "please" and "thank you", but that's not a bad place to start. It includes how to invite someone to participate in something, how to thank someone for a service performed, and how to include others and make them feel welcome. This also includes how to dress, personal appearances, how to act and conduct themselves with others ("right" versus "wrong"), etiquette and protocol, even the importance of being punctual.

Come to think of it, isn't this what parents are supposed to be teaching their children? Unfortunately, our youth are learning their socialization skills more from Hollywood, video games, and the Internet, as opposed to their parents, which, unfortunately, is doing a lousy job of raising our kids. Instead, I recommend some simple courses to teach these socialization skills, either as a group or, preferably, some one-on-one coaching such as in a mentoring program (of which I'm a big believer). And for God's sake, don't give them a DVD or video on this, have a human-being talk to them instead!

As an aside, something that might help in this regards is my book entitled, "Morphing into the Real World - The Handbook for Entering the Work Force," which is a survival guide for young people as they transition into adult life. (And makes for a great graduation gift I might add).

IF YOU CAN'T BEAT 'EM, JOIN 'EM?

BRYCE ON POLITICS

- Subverting the Democrats.

Click for AUDIO VERSION.

To use this segment in a Radio broadcast or Podcast, send TIM a request.

I have been a loyal Republican for almost 50 years. I have worked on campaigns, written political copy, and voted regularly. However, when the Republicans in Congress recently turned their back on President Trump during the stolen election and ensuing impeachment, they revealed their true spineless character as "Republicans In Name Only" (RINO). Unfortunately, this goes beyond the federal level, and down to the state, county, and municipal levels. Even party officials at the county and club levels are deemed weaklings by grassroots constituents, simply for their blind obedience. Consequently, people by the thousands are fleeing the GOP.

If by chance, President Trump is convicted of impeachment, a lot of people will be blaming the GOP, and the party will likely disintegrate. I suspect this is what the Democrats had in mind all along.

Because of my background, I am often asked what Republican voters should do, stay or go? As I see it, there are three options:

1. Stay with the party and try to improve it from within. This can only happen if there is a groundswell of support to push the RINOs out of the way. In all likelihood this will not happen as the "good ole boys" (and girls) are firmly in charge and will tow the party line come hell or high-water, thereby suppressing Trump supporters.

2. Switch party affiliation to "Independent," but by doing so people will no longer be able to participate in party primaries (unless your state allows otherwise).

3. Switch to a third-party. You can either switch to an existing party, such as the "Libertarians," who do not exactly have a stellar track record, or form a new party, such as the "Patriot Party" which is often discussed. The problem here is it takes time to grow a third party and gain any traction, particularly as both the Democrats and Republicans are trying to shut you down.

Of these three options, "Independents" are on the rise as they are sick of party politics. However, by doing so, they become less informed of candidates, particularly at the local levels.

Actually, there is a fourth option, something that came to me like an epiphany. Now don't laugh, but remember the quote, "If you can't beat them, join them"? That is precisely what we should do to the Democrats. In other words, let's take a page from the Democrat game book and infiltrate, undermine, and dominate. The Democrats are past masters at this.

Imagine if the 74 million people who voted for President Trump simply switched over to the Democrats. They could then lead a charge to change the party platform, elect new party leaders, and force out the far-left members who would likely establish their own Socialist party.

The simplicity of this is inspiring and does two things: it would totally re-make the Democrat Party as we know it today, and; the Republican Party, with their impotent leaders would become a hallow shell before our eyes, turning the RINOs out to pasture. I believe this is referred to as, "Killing two birds with one stone." Another nice benefit, it would put the news media into a tailspin as they wouldn't know who to cover or criticize.

And once the dust has settled, you can change the party name to something more rational, like the "Patriot Party."

I know, people will find it distasteful to join their former adversary, with dullard morality, but you have to think about transforming America. After all, that has been their game plan all along.

Interesting idea, right? Let's see if the Democrats like the taste of their own medicine, namely "subversion."

File this under, "Food for thought."
